Hey guys

During my time off while my computer was being fixed, I had the opportunity to  read a many fan comic and a few fanfics as well. And well, there are some things that just ANNOY my about people making DB OC's. Things that completely ruin the fancomic/fics acceptability to the DB Universe. So, I decided to create a couple no-break rules for creating a DB OC.

1) Pure- Blooded Saiyans ALWAYS have black eyes and black hair. Akira Toriyama stated in the Early Androids Saga and the Cell Saga, from Vegeta himself, that 1- All Saiyans have black hair, and 2- pure saiyan's hair doesn't grow. Any hair colors you've seen in the anime do not apply, as the anime repeatedly contradicts the original manga.

2) Regular japanese, english, etc etc etc names DO NOT APPLY to DB OC's. All Dragon Ball characters are named after a pun of some sort. Below is a list of currently used puns from Toriyama's original manga:
Pure Blooded Saiyans - Vegetables
Ginyu Force - Dairy products
Race of Hera - impure qualities (arrogance, vanity, cruelty, brutality, etc)
Makyan (Garlic Jr.'s race) - Spices
Nameks - Slugs
Icejins - things that are cold
Freeza soldiers - fruits
King Piccolo's sons - musical instruments
Briefs family - underwear
Videl's friends - school utensils
Majins/ Babiddi's minions/ race - things that are magical

Following this guide, names like these SHOULD NEVER appear in a DB fan work: Shawn, Jake, Danielle, Michael, John, Stephanie, or any other name you would commonly hear. And, while they may sound cool, unless the character is based off of a god, japanese god names or mystical creature names (ryujin, Enma, Kaio, Tsukuyomi, etc) should not be used unless the character is, in fact, based on that god or creature. If your character fits into one of the above catagories, they should follow the appropriate pun.

3) The Dragon Ball World does not have common cities that we see in the real world (France, England, Japan, etc). DB Absalon was guilty of this. Visit the Dragon Ball Wiki for names of appropriate DB based cities and planets for your character to come from (West City, East City, North City, South City, etc etc).

These are 3 NO BREAK RULES when creating a DB OC. Please use them.

Hey dude, a question. What about purple eyes? Fasha/Celipa had those, so are they acceptable?

The anime is almost never a good basis for colors because Toei animation always went willy nilly with Saiyan hair/eyes/ By the manga, all pure blooded saiyans have black hair and dark eyes

Hmm, you're right, imma work with these guidelines. I'm glad someone else noticed DB Absalon's slip up, it was driving me nuts.

Actually I don't like to copy Akira Toriyama's style because even though I have much respect for him for creating my youth and making me who I am since I first saw DBZ about 14 years ago, I am also an artist of myself. I do follow these rules since long but I think I would once every now and then break those rules.

Copying another great and respected artist in my eyes is not entirely paying respect to his original work. That is at least how I see it.

Thank you for this. Thanks allot.

Many years back I came to perform the break of the hair rule on multiple occasions. I can currently recall two of these occasions, though I think in one I did have an explanation of the fruits on the planet. And then, even in 2009 or so I did it again with a character of mine that has some strange popularity even I can't explain :I;;;

But yeah, I totally understand where you're coming from with that.

I always get weirded out when people give human characters names like "Mary" or "Lucas", etc. Or name actual places in our world as locations for the DB universe. That's really upsetting.

I have to admit to have broken the first and third rule at several occasions since some of my full-blooded Saiyan OC's do have other hair-colors other then Black

- Purple (Jagaimo, Ocha and Dapin)
- Pink (Roomush)
- Red (Kartoffa and Pinsrap)
- Green (Gemüshia and her parents)
- Brown (Cucomba)

But when I come up with full blooded Saiyan OC's I do come up with names based on vegetables or at least some eatable plant

Jagaimo (Japanese word for Potato)
Ocha (Tea)
Dapin (Pinda, Dutch word for peanut)
Roomush (Mushroom...I know not exactly a vegetable)
Kartoffa (German word for Potato)
Pinsrap (Parsnip)
Gemüshia (Based on "Gemüse", German word for vegetable)
Cucomba (Cucumber)

The points that I have broken the third rule is that I have Jagaimo live in California and Gemüshia and her parents living in Münich, Germany ^__^;;
